Make an application to contribute to the NHT voluntarily, for Jamaicans residing outside Jamaica and Jamaican pensioners who desire to contribute.

Who is a Voluntary Contributor

You are considered a voluntary contributor if you are:

  • Any person who resides outside of Jamaica, who is not required by law to contribute to the NHT but desires to. That individual must be a permanent resident or citizen of that country, or the holder of a valid residency card in any country other than Jamaica.
  • A pensioner who desires to contribute to the NHT.

What are the requirements for contributing?

Proof of Residency

To become an Overseas Voluntary Contributor (you must be a permanent resident or a citizen of that country, or the holder of a valid residency card in any country other than Jamaica)

How are payments made?

As a Voluntary Contributor you should make payments of contributions on a monthly basis. Your declared income should be stated in the currency in which it is earned and likewise for your monthly contribution payments.  

Please note that as a contributor you MUST inform us of any change in your employment status as soon as possible.

What are the benefits of contributing?

There are several benefits that voluntary contributors can reap by being compliant with the NHT. These include:

  • Low interest rate loans to build, buy or improve a house or land.
  • A refund in the 8th year after each contribution was made.
  • Obtain a tax compliance certificate.

What are the penalties for not contributing?

Failure to make contribution payments will make persons:

  • Ineligible to apply for an housing benefits such as loans and grants.
  • Ineligible to apply for contribution refunds.

As a voluntary contributor you should contribute 3% of your gross earnings if you are employed by someone else, or 3% of your income, net business related expenses if you are self-employed.

Yes. Pensioners who desire to contribute to the NHT are allowed to register as Voluntary Contributors.

Your first payment is due immediately upon registration. Thereafter, voluntary contributions are due by the last day of every month and must be paid no later than the 15th of the following month.  For example, voluntary contributions for the month of September are due September 30th but must be paid by October 15th to avoid penalties.
