Contributions Refund

Contributors are entitled to receive a "Regular" Contributions Refund in the 8th year after the contribution was made. This means if you had contributed to the NHT in 2017 you may now apply for a refund of those contributions and for any contributions made prior to that year, for which you had not received a refund. 

In other cases, a “Special” Contribution Refund application will be required. 

Types of contributions refund

Regular Refunds

An application for a regular Contributions Refund may be submitted 8 years after the contributions were made. They are part of the standard refund process and do not require any special application. A regular Contributions Refund will only be paid to the name of the Contributor. If your name has been changed you will need to provide proof of the change of name.

Special Refunds

A Special Contributions Refund does not include amounts already claimed as regular Contributions Refunds, or any amounts already credited to the Contributor's loan account.

Special Contributions are granted to the following persons: 

  • Retirees
  • Invalidity Pensioners
  • Migrating Expatriates
  • Agents of Deceased Contributors

1. Correct Spelling

Ensure your name is correctly spelled and that the spelling is the same on the account you are sending the funds to.

2. Correct Account Details

Ensure you select the right account type whether savings, checking or cashcard/prepaid.

3. Save Your Reference Number

Keep your reference number close so you can track your application.

How To Apply

Apply for your Contributions Refund via NHT Online, our online application form or our mobile app available in the Google Play and Apple App Stores.

To apply, you will need:

  • NIS (National Insurance Scheme) Number
  • TRN (Tax Registration Number)
  • Valid ID (Driver’s Licence, Passport, Voter’s ID)
  • The registered names of the companies with which you have worked and the years when you worked at each company.*

Payment Institutions

If you choose to receive your refund through a financial partner; please ensure that you enter the correct bank account number and branch (the branch where the account was opened).  Also, ensure that your bank account is not dormant and that the name on the account matches the name in your application.

As your refund becomes due, it is credited to your mortgage

You can get back your total contributions if you fall in any of the following categories Retirees Invalidity Pensioners Expatriates who are leaving the island Agents/Nominees of deceased contributors This is called Special Contributions Refund (According to Section 22 of the NHT Act).

A contributor who has already received contributions refund from the NHT remains eligible for a loan benefit, once contributions payments are current.
