A Special Refund gives you access at one time, to all the contributions you have made to the Trust.
“Special” Contribution Refunds do not include amounts already claimed as “Regular” Contributions Refund, or any amounts already credited to the Contributor's loan account.
The following persons qualify for special refunds:
- Retirees – persons reaching the age of retirement.
- Invalidity Pensioners. - persons who can no longer work because of a mental or physical disability, and who have been certified as Invalidity Pensioners by the National Insurance Scheme (NIS).
- Migrating Expatriates - foreign nationals who lived and worked in Jamaica, made NHT contributions, and are leaving Jamaica permanently.
Agents of Deceased Contributors - persons who can claim refunds on behalf of a deceased person. Ensure to review details to see documents required. More Details

Ensure your name is correctly spelled and that the spelling is the same on the account you are sending the funds to.

Ensure you select the right account type whether savings, checking or cashcard/prepaid.

Registered names of the company/companies with which you worked during the year/years for which you are applying for a refund.
How to apply?
Additional document(s)
The following qualified contributors will need to provide the following additional documents when applying for a special refund.
Retirees
Proof of your age. This could be satisfied by a Passport, new form birth certificate, school admission record or a Statutory Declaration Form that could be completed by someone who has known you from early childhood (and signed, stamped and dated by a Justice of the Peace).
Invalidity Pensioners
Invalidity Booklet and Invalidity Award for Pension Letter from the NIS Office. Both documents should show your name and pension number.
Migrating Expatriates
A one-way airline ticket out of Jamaica OR a letter from your company or an embassy indicating that you are leaving the country permanently.

Contribution Refunds can be sent to any of the following payment institutions:
If you choose to receive your refund through a financial partner; please ensure that you enter the correct bank account number and branch (the branch where the account was opened). Also, ensure that your bank account is not dormant and that the name on the account matches the name in your application.
