Who Can Apply?
To apply for a Home Improver Loan you must:
- have purchased a home at least 10 years ago through the open market or via NHT
- be between 18 and 70 years old
- not have spouse who already owns a house
- never have gotten a previous loan from the NHT*
- be a non-homeowner (your name cannot be on a house title)
- have made at least 52 weekly contributions, with 13 within the last 26 weeks before applying
*Does not apply if you received your NHT loan at least 10 years ago.



Seven Plus (7+) Loan
Personalize your home with solutions designed for NHT homeowners whose loans were received more than 7 years ago. Whether you're looking to enhance living areas, tackle necessary repairs, or pursue extensive upgrades, these options are tailored to fit your home improvement goals.
You can access up to $5 million for:
- Home expansion
- Purchasing and installing hurricane shutters
- Constructing a perimeter fence
- House re-roofing
- Aesthetic enhancements such as tiling and paintwork
SMART Energy Loan
The SMART Energy Loan offers financing to contributors for a range of renewable energy products. Interest rates will be in line with the borrower’s income (between 0%-5%) with a repayment period of up to 10 years, or until the homeowner reaches the age of 70, whichever comes first. This initiative supports climate change resilience through advanced energy-saving technologies, reinforcing NHT's commitment to environmental sustainability.
You can access up to $2.5 million for:
- Solar Panels
- Solar Water Heaters
- Solar Insulation
- Renewable energy solutions
- Set up rainwater harvesting and storage systems

EFMP increases your housing opportunities with expanded options when applying for your NHT loan through our partners. The interest rates for the NHT loan portion remain unchanged.

Smart Energy Grant
The Smart Energy Grant offers public and private sector pensioners up to $1.5 million to enhance their homes with energy-saving technologies.
Home Grant
This is a special offer of up to $3.5 million, to NHT contributors now earning between minimum wage and $30,000.99 per week, and who do not yet own a home.
